Traci Jones is a nationally recognized leader with over 15 years of experience in history, education and culturally responsive pedagogy. Traci is the current Park Ranger for the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument, A.G. Gaston Motel. She formally worked as the Programs Manager and Education and Interpretation Specialist for the Alabama African American Civil Rights Heritage Sites Consortium. As a former Programs Consultant for the Historic 16th Street Baptist Church she was responsible for providing analysis, advice and solutions for the organization’s visitor and tourism operations. As a Community Outreach Educator, she creatively engages people in topics concerning Civil Rights and Social Justice. In addition to Mrs. Jones being employed by the National Park Service, she has assisted the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom Schools as Project Director and The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute as The Gallery Experience Manager. In these roles, she has continuously advocated for the use of education as a tool to empower individuals and groups, facilitate enrichment opportunities for community engagement, and provided exemplary customer service for small to large scale programs.
Mrs. Jones attended Auburn University and obtained her Bachelor of Science in African American Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a Nationally Accredited Certified Interpreter Guide for African American History and Culture; facilitated leadership workshops as an A.G. Gaston Capstone Fellow and provided Professional Leadership and Customer Service Training as a WOW Ambassador. On a more personal note, Mrs. Jones is a native of Bessemer, Alabama. She shares four children with her husband, Law-Enforcement Detective, Byron Jones.
